Those who are abiding in SATTWA go upwards; the RAJASIC dwell in the middle; and the TAMASIC, abiding in the function of the lowest GUNA, go downwards.

ūrdhvaṃ = upwards; gacchanti = go; sattvasthāḥ = those situated in the mode of goodness; madhye = in the middle; tiṣṭhanti = dwell; rājasāḥ = those situated in the mode of passion; jaghanya = of abominable; guṇa = quality; vṛttisthāḥ = whose occupation; adhaḥ = down; gacchanti = go; tāmasāḥ = persons in the mode of ignorance.;
