The seven great RISHIS, the ancient four and also the MANUS, possessed of powers like Me, were born of (My) mind; from them are these creatures in the world (originated and sustained) .

maharṣayaḥ = the great sages; sapta = seven; pūrve = before; catvāraḥ = four; manavaḥ = Manus; tathā = also; madbhāvāḥ = born of Me; mānasāḥ = from the mind; jātāḥ = born; yeṣāṃ = of them; loke = in the world; imāḥ = all this; prajāḥ = population.;
